— About Us

Why iThrive Exists ?

At iThrive, I offer therapy for first-generation immigrant South Asian women, looking at your whole life, not just the problem that brought you in. Many Western therapy approaches focus on the individual, with advice like “put yourself first,” “set a boundary,” or “walk away.” But for many of us, family is part of who we are, and ending one relationship can feel like losing your entire support system. I believe you don’t have to choose between yourself and the people you love. I understand how family, culture, and faith shape a person, and I’ll walk alongside you, finding strategies that fit you instead of asking you to fit them. Here, you can talk about what you usually keep to yourself, maybe the guilt of wanting something different, or the pressure to keep everyone happy. Together, we can work toward what matters to you, at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions are in English, Malayalam, Hindi, or Urdu, so you can feel at ease opening up. My goal is to help you look after yourself without feeling like you’re caring less for the people you love.

2015

Where It Began

It all started with volunteering for a community nonprofit. It opened my eyes to social issues I had never seen up close, and made me passionate about serving marginalized communities.

2016 to 2018

Finding My Calling

One year in the field led me to a Master of Social Work. Psychotherapy, one of many subjects, caught my interest.

2019 to 2021

Years on the Ground

I worked with women, children and youth facing a wide range of challenges, from poverty to illness. These years taught me to see people’s struggles from many sides.

2021

Starting Over in Canada

The first in my family to earn a master’s and move abroad, I began again from the ground up. When I learned I could become a therapist here once my credentials were assessed, it was “yes, yes, this is exactly what I want.”

2022

Becoming a Therapist

I started at $18 an hour with the YMCA, then worked as a support worker and camp counsellor, slowly finding my way back to psychotherapy. As a newcomer, I struggled to find a therapist who understood how deeply culture shapes the way we think, feel, love, and cope. So in 2023, I opened iThrive to offer other women therapy that gets those nuances.
